Apple Intelligence Features Coming Soon: iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 Lead the Way, Major Siri Upgrades Expected in 2025
Apple is set to introduce its first Apple Intelligence features with iOS 18.1, releasing on October 28. This update will bring an exciting range of tools, including Writing Tools, personalized notification summaries, and Smart Replies, aimed at streamlining user experience on iPhone. Shortly after iOS 18.1, Apple will launch iOS 18.2, currently in testing, which adds new features like Genmoji, Image Playground, and Siri’s ChatGPT integration.
What’s New in Siri and Apple Intelligence
Apple plans major Siri enhancements across future updates. In iOS 18.3 or iOS 18.4, slated for 2025, Siri will become even more intelligent and personalized. Through “personal context,” Siri will learn more about users by accessing relevant information in messages, emails, and notes, enabling it to retrieve specific details like flight information from an email or a recipe shared in a text conversation.
Siri will also support advanced in-app actions, like editing a photo and sharing it directly through the Messages app or saving attachments from emails to Files. Additionally, Siri’s integration with third-party apps will allow tasks like checking the weather in Carrot Weather or scheduling events in Fantastical.
Genmoji, Image Playground, and macOS Integration
With iOS 18.2, users will be able to create personalized “Genmoji” and enjoy creative features in Image Playground, although Genmoji is not yet available on macOS. Meanwhile, macOS Sequoia 15.2 will support Image Playground, enabling users to access dynamic creative tools on their Mac. Other features, like Memory Movies—slide shows generated from photos with text descriptions—will debut on iPhone and iPad first, with macOS integration planned for a later date.
Introducing Priority Notifications and Expanded Language Support
Apple is also working on Priority Notifications, a feature to surface critical alerts at the top of the notification stack. Additionally, language support is set to expand in 2025, adding options in Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
Apple Intelligence Release Timeline
With iOS 18.1 arriving on October 28, users can access features like Writing Tools, the redesigned Siri interface, Type to Siri, notification summaries, and the “Clean Up” option in Photos. iOS 18.2, anticipated in December 2024, will include Genmoji, Image Playground, and Siri’s ChatGPT functionality. Further updates—iOS 18.3 and iOS 18.4—are expected in early 2025, likely in January and March, and will bring additional Apple Intelligence enhancements and Siri’s new capabilities.
