iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max Set to Debut Samsung's Advanced 'M14' OLED Displays

The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are poised to lead Apple's smartphone lineup with Samsung's cutting-edge "M14" OLED display panels, marking a significant upgrade, reports originating from South Korea suggest.

According to ETNews, Samsung's "M" series OLED panels are specifically tailored for flagship smartphones, with "14" denoting the incorporation of 14 high-performance materials for enhanced quality. This new series aims to deliver superior brightness and extended lifespan.

Samsung has reportedly commenced material orders and plans to initiate mass production of these displays in the latter half of the year, exclusively for Apple's iPhone 16 Pro models. Google's Pixel 9 is also expected to adopt these advanced panels in 2024.

Earlier reports from China indicated that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models could feature up to 1,200 nits of typical SDR brightness, a 20% increase over current models, potentially attributable to Samsung's new "M14" panels. However, peak HDR brightness is anticipated to remain at 1,600 nits, consistent with the iPhone 15 Pro Display.

Speculation from last year suggested that all iPhone 16 models would integrate new micro-lens OLED display technology, aimed at enhancing brightness and reducing power consumption, though it's unclear if this technology correlates directly with the M14 panels.

In terms of dimensions, multiple sources indicate that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature larger screens compared to their predecessors. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to sport a display around 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max could feature a screen as large as 6.9 inches.
