Since its debut on the App Store, Delta has garnered immense popularity among retro gaming enthusiasts, consistently ranking in the top charts. Users have flocked to play retro games originally available on NES, SNES, N64, Nintendo DS, Game Boy, and Game Boy Advance.
With version 1.6 now offering iPad support, users can fully utilize the device's larger display for fullscreen gameplay. Specifically designed controller skins for iPad enhance the experience, and the app supports multiple windows through Stage Manager and Split View. Games can optionally pause when switching windows. The iPad version also integrates external game controllers. Developer Riley Testut ensures seamless game continuity between iPhone and iPad, allowing gamers to pick up right where they left off.
Testut notes the elimination of the need for BIOS files, streamlining the setup process. Users will also notice significant performance improvements for DS games. The update introduces various menu button gestures for more intuitive navigation. An experimental feature, "Reverse Controller Skin Screens," lets users switch controller skin screens during gameplay for enhanced customization and flexibility.
Initially, Testut explained that Delta for iPad wasn't a priority, originally planning to limit the emulator's launch to the EU via the alternative app marketplace AltStore PAL, which didn't support iPad.
However, Apple reversed its years-old policy in April, permitting retro game emulators on the App Store. Consequently, Delta became available as a free download in the United States and other countries, with users supporting the developer via Patreon. Official download links for the latest version can be found on the Delta website.
